The Murals - Individual and Corporate Giving
These murals made their formal debut in 2007 at the Durham Arts Council exhibition of Charlie’s work, titled “The Triumph of Art Over Illness,” the largest single artist exhibition in the council’s history. Nearly 70 master prints from the Bald Head Island and Hurricane Fran collections were exhibited. Since that time, many of these images have won recognition before national and international judging panels.
During the development of the exhibition master prints, Susan Dennis and Chapel Hill photographer and printmaker Bill Bamberger determined that much of Charlie’s work was of such large scale subject matter and technical proficiency that magnificent mural-sized prints could be produced retaining the tiniest of details. The arduous task of mastering these murals was done slowly over many months by producing dozens of versions, adjusting them section by section to achieve a perfect match to Charlie’s originals. These giant images are virtually pure, unaltered renderings of that which was captured in the field and then meticulously crafted in the darkroom.
Each mural may be ordered custom-sized to fit a specific space. Maximum dimensions can go up to 43” x 63”. Print price is fixed for any sizing up to these dimensions, framed and matted.
"Although Charlie did not live long enough to produce these murals himself, he would have passionately embraced their creation. Not only do they boldly celebrate his love of landscape photography, they are a tribute to his lifelong technical training and study of his craft. They take his work to the highest possible plateau and dramatically personify the triumph of art over illness."
